In a remarkable assembly held on June 15, 2023, we witnessed the convergence of members from multiple Uniformed voluntary organizations across Nigeria, including the Boys Brigade, Girls Brigade, Girl Guide, Scout, Royal Ambassadors, Citizens for Peace, Chanplancy, and Forensic Guard Nigeria. The event was a vivid embodiment of unity and solidarity against a common cause: to eradicate Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) from our society.
The event was spearheaded by Ifeanyi Ofodu Raymond, a zealous youth representative for the Movement For Good to End FGM. Through his tireless efforts and in collaboration with the office of the United Nations SDG Youth Representative, the event was aimed at cementing a robust partnership between the Uniformed Voluntary Organizations of Nigeria and UNICEF. This alliance is envisaged to play a significant role in advancing Gender Equality and amplifying the work of the Movement For Good to End FGM across Nigeria.
Ifeanyi's efforts are rooted in the belief that through fostering positive partnerships, Uniformed Voluntary Organizations can become potent agents of positive change. By harnessing their nationwide reach and influence, these organizations can become instrumental in ending Female Genital Mutilation across the five states where the practice is still prevalent.
The event concluded on a promising note, paving the way for further engagements, consultations, and a planned visit to the UN House. These follow-up activities are planned to enable a broader and more effective implementation of the SDGs and the Movement For Good to End FGM.
It's our collective responsibility to promote gender equality and protect the rights and dignity of every woman and girl. The event was a stepping stone in the right direction, and we look forward to seeing the fruits of this partnership in the near future.
Together, we can create a future without FGM.
