Movement For Good To End Female Genital Mutilation

About the Movement4Good:

Welcome to the Movement 4 Good to end FGM in Nigeria (M4Good).

M4Good is a whole-of-society and community-led undertaking to drive, accelerate and scale up grassroots initiatives and efforts that have been helpful in eliminating FGM in five (5) Nigerian states where the practice is highly prevalent: Ebonyi, Ekiti, Imo, Osun and Oyo.

Female genital mutilation (FGM) comprises all procedures involving partial or total removal of the external female genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons (WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA, 1997). FGM can lead to severe health consequences that affect girls and women’s physical, mental, sexual health and well-being.

More than 200 million girls and women alive today have undergone FGM, and 19.9million are in Nigeria. (UNICEF 2020 & 2013). Over 4 million girls are at risk of FGM every year, and If FGM continues to be practised at current levels, 68 million girls will be subjected to FGM by 2030 (UNFPA, 2018).

"FGM violates women's and girls' rights. It must stop now!

M4Good to end FGM in Nigeria aims to enrol 5 million Nigerians who will "#act2endFGM". You can join M4Good by pledging to protect girls and women at risk of FGM and to support FGM survivors in your community.
